Outbreak of Holy Ghost Fire During Summer Youth Missions Explosion 2000

Summer Youth Missions Explosion 2000 was just that---an explosion of God’s power and might. In a true Book of Acts fashion, the Holy Spirit and fire was poured out upon our youth in a way like not seen in years. From the first meeting on Sunday evening in McAllen, Texas; God was there melting and molding this diverse group of youth and adults together as one body in Spirit and in power. There were sixty-nine participants (46 youth & 23 adults) in the group representing the Florida, South Alabama, Central Georgia, North Georgia, East Carolina, and West Carolina Districts. Youth from the Texas District also joined in numerous activities.

Throughout Monday the entire group did a service project. Both youth and adults ministered unto the Lord Jesus Christ by working at Melody Lane Mission Station at McAllen, Texas where the group was staying. Melody Lane provides lodging facilities for short-term missionaries and their families as they work across the Mexican border. The SYME group mowed grass, cut hedges, dug ditches, washed windows/fences, cleared weeds/debris along a very long perimeter fence, washed missionary campers/vehicles, spray-cleaned decks/ porches, cleaned around buildings, and anything else that was needed. Though the temperature reached near 100 degrees, the group did not complain. Later that night at nearby church the group gathered for a worship service. In what was to be indicative of the remainder of the week, God poured out the power of the Holy Ghost and fire during the service. There was a message in tongues. In the interpretation God said that He was raising up an army; an army of young people who would follow him in the power of the Holy Spirit; an army that would be obedient to Him; an army of young people that would bring revival to the land. The altars filled and the fire began.

On Tuesday the Summer Youth Missions Explosion team visited an orphanage in Reynosa, Mexico. The children here touched everyone. A puppet show demonstrating that God makes everyone special was presented. Later our youth discovered that the orphanage was running short on money and food. Without any adult prodding, our CHC youth took up an offering of $450 dollars for the orphanage. Praise God! Later that night the group assembled at the Mexican Youth Congress that was being held in Reynosa, Mexico. Once again God poured out his mighty power upon this crowd of over 1000 during praise and worship. After an anointed message by the Reverend Billy Anderson, CHC World Mission Director, the altars filled with hundreds of youth seeking God. In the middle of this dynamic altar service, our CHC youth were there. Once again the fire burned.

On Wednesday, the SYME 2000 group returned to the Mexican National Youth Congress for the morning session of praise, singing, and teaching. Reverend Danny K. Jones and accompanying General Christian Education Board members-Reverend David Carithers, Brian Kinney, and Trent Shiflett presented the CHC Mexican National Youth Board with SYME 2000 T-shirts and Bibles. Following the presentation, the two boards joined hands and prayed for the youth of both countries. Reverend Danny K. Jones then visually presented "Put On The Whole Armor of God" during the teaching session. After a wonderful Mexican lunch at the Youth Congress, the SYME group went back to Melody Lane. Later that evening the group returned for the evening worship service at the Youth Congress in Reynosa. Once again the anointing of God filled the meeting place where over 1200 had gathered for service. Later the entire SYME team sang the song "I Need You More" and the fire of God fell. Reverend Danny K. Jones later preached the message "Will You Be A One Or A Many For God?" God moved in a mighty way in the altars and changed many lives. The fire was spreading.

On Thursday morning the SYME visited several outlying Mexican Congregational Holiness Churches near Progresso, Mexico. Following these visits everyone went into the city of Progresso for shopping and a great meal at one of the restaurants there. The group returned that afternoon to Melody Lane. Later that night the entire SYME team met once again at a nearby church for the closing service. During the service, the Reverend Jose Rubio, CHC Latin American Supervisor thanked the group and admonished them to go back to their churches and tell what they had seen and what God was doing. Reverend Danny Jones then presented each SYME member with a special, commemorative short-term missionary pin. In a very moving part of the evening, the entire group took Communion, and the altars filled with CHC youth and adults hungrily seeking God. A candle light service was then held in which the entire team formed a circle around the sanctuary. As over 80 candles brightly burned, the group was reminded that each person was a light for Jesus Christ. Everyone was to go home to his or her church to share the light and the fire. Toward what was perceived to be end of the service, five young men came forward to share what the Lord had done for them that week. All testimonies were filled with praise and thanksgiving for what God had done. Brandon Brown (Dillon, South Carolina CHC) was last to testify. As he began to thank God, a special supernatural unction of the Holy Ghost came upon him. Brandon began to exhort the youth to go home and share the fire. At that moment there was a Pentecostal explosion of God’s power and glory that swept everyone into the altars once again. Young people were sanctified. Young people were filled with the Holy Spirit and fire. Spiritual manifestations of healing, tongues, dancing in the Spirit, running the aisles, being slain in the Holy Spirit occurred during the next two and half hours. Many received new callings and directions of ministry in their lives. No, it was not just emotionalism; it was God! There was fire, fire, fire---everywhere! Around 12:40 a.m. the service ended, but the fire now blazed!

Early Friday morning the farewells were tearfully said at Melody Lane and the SYME 2000 group began to depart. What had started out, as a diverse group of 69 youth and adults from five states was now a fiery army of Jesus Christ that would return home and scatter the fire. It was an experience that changed the lives of all participants. It was indeed an explosion of God’s power and grace. And may this explosion bring Holy Ghost revival to the entire Congregational Holiness Church! Amen. Youth Investment: Prayer, Time, Money.
